Our Fall Auction Sales, part 2: Orders & Medals |Coins from the Ancient World
28. - 30. October 2024 | Vienna House Remarque Hotel, Osnabrück
Dear friends of orders and decorations and coin enthusiasts,
the first part of our Fall Auction Sales is now followed by the second part with Orders and Decorations as well as coins from the Ancient World.
We start on October 28, 2024 with catalog 415 - Orders and Decorations, Coins and Medals from the estates of the high nobility and private collections, in cooperation with Philipp Württemberg Art Advisory GmbH. The auction includes not only orders and decorations, but also many medals and even coins from the estates of Dr. Alexander Eugen Duke of Württemberg and Carl Theodor in Bavaria. You can look forward to very special numismatic and phaleristic rarities that once belonged to people who made history! As examples, we would like to mention a 3 mark 1918 D commemorating the golden wedding anniversary of the Bavarian royal couple, or the gift box with two gold medals, in the weight of 35 ducats, presented on the occasion of the marriage of Emperor Franz Joseph I. and Elisabeth of Bavaria on April 24, 1854.

On October 29 and 30, 2024, we will be presenting more than 1038 lots of selected coins from Greeks, Celts, Romans and Byzantines as well as from the migration period and the Islamic world in Auction 416. The catalog begins with the collection of Dr. Eike Druckrey, who chose the title “Aesthetics and Thought of the Early Greeks” for his collection. Dr. Eike Druckrey collected 305 exquisite Greek coins. The connoisseur will discover all of his favorite coins here: Poseidonia, Kaulonia, Kamarina, Naxos, Syracuse, Abdera, Athens, Corinth, to name just a few. Further ancient coins from various collections will follow on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday. Also in this part of the catalog, the connoisseur will discover numerous rarities, such as an extremely rare 100-litres piece from Syracuse, signed by Kimon, whose provenance dates back to 1917. A posthumous gold stater of the Philip II type is of exceptional beauty, its Apollo head showing similarities to the portrait of Alexander the Great. A marvelous drachm of Pherai originates from the BCD collection. Its artistic die cut comes into its own only through its perfect preservation, as does that of an archaic didrachm of Erythrai. Furthermore, we are presenting a collection of 306 ancient coins from the Clémentine of Orléans, Duchess of Saxe-Coburg-Koháry (Lot 2166). We have dedicated an insightful article to the collector in our latest issue of Künker Exklusiv. The article is currently available in German only, the English version will follow shortly.
