GOUDA Stadt. Silbermedaille 1697, von J. Drappentier, auf den am 9. Mai begonnenen Friedenskongreß in Rijswijk, gestiftet von der Stadt Gouda. Wilhelm III. als Herkules steht nach r. mit Keule, den Fuß auf die am Boden liegende, personifizierte Zwietracht gestellt, und entzündet mit einer Fackel einen Altar mit Kriegstrophäen, oben befindet sich das von zwei Löwen gehaltene gekrönte Stadtwappen von Gouda//Pax mit Zweig und Harfe thront v. v. auf einem Sockel, l. davor lagern Pan und Tyche (Gouda), r. Neptun (Gouwe) und Merkur; im Hintergrund r. Meer mit Schiffen, l. das Schloß Rijswijk. 73,93 mm; 113,50 g. Pax in Nummis 341 var. (dort in Zinn); v. Loon IV, S. 190 var. Randfehler, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz Vgl. den Kommentar bei Hawkins, S. 190: "The lyre in the hands of Peace is emblematical of harmony; the figures at the base are symbolical of Gouda; the Genius of the city; Bacchus, indicating Agriculture; Neptune, Commerce; Mercury, Trade. Agriculture and Commerce are also alluded to by the ships and the plough."
