Die Zuweisung dieser Stücke ist umstritten. Schon J. M. Cook, The Troad. An Archaeological and Topographical Study, Oxford 1973, 118 hatte nach Hinweisen von L. Robert, Études de numismatique grecque, Paris 1951, 99 betont, dass aufgrund der Fundumstände die Zuweisung dieser Münzen an ein troadisches Thymbra wenig überzeugend, wenn nicht gar ausgeschlossen sei. D. Savaş Lenger, Thyessos in Lydia, not Thymbra in the Troad, in: D. Boteva (Hrsg.), Ex nummis lux. Studies in Ancient Numismatics in Honour of D. Draganov, Sofia 2017, 221-228 bringt diese Münzen, vor allem wegen der Ikonografie (Zeus Ammon//Pentagramm; zum Pentagramm vgl. A.B. Cook, Zeus. A Study in Ancient Religion III 1, Cambridge 1940, 341 f.), die auch von Pitane (nahe Pergamon) verwendet wurde, aber auch wegen der Fundsituation, mit einem Thyessos in der Umgebung von Pergamon in Verbindung, das in antiken Quellen als Stadt Lydiens genannt wird (L. Zgusta, Kleinasiatische Ortsnamen, Heidelberg 1984, 187 f. § 352, 1) und das offensichtlich in einer Dedikation, die in Pergamon errichtet wurde, aufscheint (M. Fränkel, Die Inschriften von Pergamon VIII 2. Römische Zeit. — Inschriften auf Thon, Berlin 1895, 254 f. Nr. 355). Die Autoren des Corpus Nummorum Online bleiben in Kenntnis der Diskussion vorläufig jedoch bei der Zuordnung der Stücke zu Thymbra in der Troas. [JN]

The attribution of these pieces is disputed. J. M. Cook, The Troad. An Archaeological and Topographical Study, Oxford 1973, 118 – based on information from L. Robert, Etudes de numismatique grecque, Paris 1951, 99 – had already emphasized that, due to the circumstances of the find, attributing these coins to a Thymbra in the Troad was unconvincing, if not impossible. Primarily due to the iconography (Zeus Ammon//pentagram; for more on the pentagram, cf. A. B. Cook, Zeus. A Study in Ancient Religion III 1, Cambridge 1940, 341 f.), which was also used by Pitane (near Pergamon), and the find situation, D. Savaş Lenger (Thyessos in Lydia, not Thymbra in the Troad, in: D. Boteva (ed.), Ex nummis lux. Studies in Ancient Numismatics in Honour of D. Draganov, Sofia, 2017, 221-228), attributes these coins to a Thyessos near Pergamon, which is mentioned in ancient sources as a city of Lydia (L. Zgusta, Kleinasiatische Ortsnamen, Heidelberg, 1984, 187 f., § 352, 1), and that apparently appears in a dedication erected in Pergamon (M. Fränkel, Die Inschriften von Pergamon VIII 2. Römische Zeit, — Inschriften auf Thon, Berlin 1895, 254 f., No. 355). However, the authors of Corpus Nummorum Online provisionally stick to attributing the pieces to Thymbra in the Troad, despite being aware of the discussion. [JN]
