Hoover liest die Reverslegende als M-Y-T-I und weist die Obole Mytilene (Lesbos) zu; während die SNG Arikantürk das Stück nach Myrina (Aeolis) legt. Das Problem liegt an dem undeutlichen dritten Buchstaben des Ethnikons, den Oliver Hoover als Tau identifiziert, während Oguz Tekin und Aliye Erol-Özdizbay ihn vorsichtig als Alpha beschreiben. Bei dem recht deutlich ausgeprägten Exemplar des British Museum (Registration number 1895, O405.1) scheint uns ein Rho nicht unwahrscheinlich, wir folgen bei der Zuweisung hier daher den Autoren der SNG Arikantürk, betonen aber, dass diese Zuweisung nicht gesichert.


Hoover reads the reverse legend as M-Y-T-I and assigns the obols to Mytilene (Lesbos), whereas SNG Arikantürk suggests that the piece is from Myrina (Aeolis). The problem is the rather indistinct third letter of the ethnicon. Oliver Hoover identifies this as a tau, whereas Oguz Tekin and Aliye Erol-Özdizbay tentatively refer to it as an alpha. The letters on the specimen in the British Museum (registration number 1895, O405.1) are clearer, and it seems plausible to us that the specimen depicts a rho. This is why we follow the opinion of SNG Arikantürk authors’, but emphasize that this attribution is uncertain.
