Sarapis auf dem Avers und der Kopfschmuck der Isis auf dem Revers dieser Münze sind stellvertretend für die Entwicklung der Popularität ägyptischen Götterglaubens im Hellenismus. Prägten in der Mittelmeerregion im 3. Jahrhundert v. Chr. lediglich fünf Poleis Münzen mit einem Bezug zur gens Isiaca, waren es im 2. Jahrhundert bereits 22 Städte. Gemeinsam ist diesen Städten -so auch Myndos-, dass sie durch ihre Küstenlage und einen Hafen steten Kontakt mit Händlern des gesamten Mittelmeerraumes hatten. Im speziellen Fall von Myndos kommt hinzu, dass die Stadt zwischen 280 und 195 v. Chr. unter ptolemäischer Herrschaft stand. So war es den ägyptischen Kulten und der anhängigen Götterverehrung möglich, über Ägypten hinaus Fuß zu fassen. Erst in der Kaiserzeit vollzog sich dann eine umfassende zweite Verbreitungswelle, die die Kulte bis ins Landesinnere Kleinasiens vorstoßen ließ. Sarapis on the obverse and the headdress of Isis on the reverse of this coin represent the growing popularity of Egyptian deities during the Hellenistic period. While only five poleis had minted coins referencing the gens Isaica in the 3rd century BC, this number increased to 22 by the 2nd century BC. What these cities – including Myndos – had in common was that they were located on the coast and had a harbor, meaning that they were in constant contact with traders from all over the Mediterranean. In the specific case of Myndos, it should be added that the city was under Ptolemaic rule from 280 to 195 BC. This facilitated the spread of Egyptian cults and the associated worship of the gods beyond Egypt. However, it was not until the imperial period that a major second wave of expansion took place, allowing the cults to penetrate into the interior of Asia Minor.
