Information on the current situation regarding US tariffs
As you are all aware the US government has introduced tariffs on all goods that were manufactured in a non-US country and are being imported into the US. As of now, the general tariffs are 10% on those goods. The additional tariffs which were introduced on April 2nd (e.g. 20% on all goods originating in the EU) are being paused for the moment until July 9th.
As you can imagine, those tariffs caused a huge discussion among coin dealers and auction houses, logistic companies, customs brokers and lawyers.
We at Kuenker think we have very good reasons to believe that all collector coins and medals (except of Russian and Chinese origin) are not subject of those tariffs. We have been consulting with specialists and we see a growing consensus among all experts that numismatic items are exempt from the US tariffs. But as of today we have not seen yet a clear decision from the competent US authority regarding that questions. For that reason we are at this point unable to guarantee that numismatic items will be exempt but we want to share our view nevertheless.
The actual import into the US is processed by the shipping companies or a broker (i.e. FEDEX) in the name of the receiving party. We have received mixed feedback if the 10% tariff was charged to the importer/the customer or if the customs brokers followed our assessment that coins should be tax free. Therefore we would like to offer our customers in the US two options for our sales.
We can either ship the items at your request as usual right away or we can store them free of charge until we have received a decision by US customs.
Our customer service team will contact our US buyers after a purchase to determine the preferred course of action. We will do the utmost to deliver the new additions to your collection to you in the safest and best way possible.
Thank you very much for consideration and your trust in us.
