Hans Mohr was born in April 1943 in Frankfurt am Main, and grew up in his hometown amid the extensive damage from the war.
He completed an apprenticeship as an Industrial Business Management Assistant at the major chemicaland pharmacy company Farbwerke Hoechst AG, and remained loyal to his company throughout his entire career. He was highly valued as an employee in the Finance Department and was granted power of attorney. The Hoechst AG group entrusted their authorized signatory with the approval of major investments.
Hans Mohr inherited his father’s passion for collecting, and with a keen interest in aesthetically pleasing objects, he collected books, art, and coins. His good memory and keen interest in history were particularly useful with his coin collecting activities.
As a numismatist, Hans Mohr specialised in gold coins – for that precious metal held the same fascination for him that it does for all of us.

Besides travelling (he particularly liked the flower-filled island of Madeira and the Canary Islands), numismatics was the great hobby of the finance professional Hans Mohr. He was a member of the German Numismatic Society and the Society for International Money History (GIG) and enjoyed attending auctions and coin fairs throughout Germany.
The writer of this preface fondly remembers the personal and trusting conversations with him at the GIG coin fairs, which in the 1980s and 1990s always took place on the first Thursday of the month at the Gewerkschaftshaus in Frankfurt am Main.
Hans Mohr maintained his coin collection until shortly before his death in January 2018. It was his wish that his treasured life’s work should be returned to the numismatic cycle through a Künker auction, and we thank his family for their trust.
